Out of the Box Setup

For machines which are brand new - Please follow prompts to register your machine with Apple. 
  • During this initial setup you will be asked to create a user account
  • Name this account administrator
  • Enter a Password for this account and be sure to record it somewhere safe
  • Follow the prompts until you have reached the Desktop
  • This user will be given administrator privileges by default; It is recommended to create a standard user account 

Create a ~sedna user and enabling Auto-Login
Creating a ~sedna user standardizes your player deployment and makes administrative tasks easier. 
  1. Click the Apple Icon in the Upper Left of your screen
  2. Select System Preferences
  3. Click Users and Groups
  4. Click the Lock Icon and enter your password in order to make changes
  5. Enter the following:
  • Full Name: sedna
  • Account Name: sedna
  • Password: presenter
  • Verify: presenter
      6. Click Create User

Enable Auto-Login for the sedna user
Enabling auto-login allows your player to start without intervention
  1. Click Login Options
  2. Click the Automatic Login dropdown
  3. Select sedna
  4. Enter the password for the sedna account
  5. Click OK
  6. Restart your mac

Name your computer and enable Remote Management Features
Enabling the Remote Management features allows you to administer your Mac without a keyboard and mouse attached. 
  1. Click the Apple Icon in the Upper Left of your screen
  2. Select System Preferences
  3. Click Sharing
  4. Click the Lock Icon and enter your password if required
  5. In the Computer Name Field name your computer something unique such as "Sedna Player 1"
  6. Check "Remote Login"
  7. Check "Remote Management"
  8. Check all check boxes within the window 
  9. Click OK
  10. On the right hand side under allow access for: click the "All Users" radio button 

Disable Software Updates
Disabling software updates ensures your player will not restart unexpectedly or install updates which could effect performance of the player. You should only perform this step after updating the player to latest version of the Operating System by going to System Preferences---> Software Update and click "Check for Updates" and follow the prompts. 
  1. Click the Apple Icon in Upper Left of your screen 
  2. Select System Preferences
  3. Click Software Update
  4. Click the Lock Icon and enter your password in order to make changes
  5. Ensure that the following are unchecked:
  • Automatically check for updates
  • Automatically download apps purchased on other Macs

Disable the Infrared Receiver (Mac Mini)
Disabling the infrared receiver ensures that your machine can not be interrupted by the Apple infrared remote.
  1. Click the Apple Icon in the Upper Left of your screen
  2. Select System Preferences
  3. Click Security & Privacy
  4. Click General
  5. Click the lock icon to unlock it and then type your password
  6. Click Advanced
  7. Select "Disable remote control infrared receiver" to turn off IR reception

Disable Bluetooth 
Disabling Bluetooth prevents the Bluetooth Setup Assistant from appearing as well as prevents a mouse cursor from appearing on screen
  1. Click the Apple Icon in the Upper Left of your screen
  2. Select System Preferences
  3. Click Bluetooth
  4. Mountain Lion 10.8: Uncheck "On" | Mavericks 10.9 Click "Turn Bluetooth Off"
  5. Click Advanced
  6. Uncheck All check boxes 
  7. Click OK

Disable the Screensaver
  1. Click the Apple Icon in the Upper Left of your screen
  2. Select System Preferences
  3. Click Desktop & Screen Saver
  4. Click Screen Saver
  5. At the bottom of the Window under "Start After" - Select None

Disable Energy Saver Sleep and Enable Start-Up Automatically after a power failure
  1. Click the Apple Icon in the Upper Left of your screen
  2. Select System Preferences
  3. Click Energy Saver
  4. Drag the Computer Sleep and Display Sleep sliders to Never
  5. Check "Wake for Network Access" 
  6. Check "Start Up Automatically after a power failure"
  7. Un-Check "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" 

Disable Notification Center
  1. Click the Finder Icon in your Dock
  2. Click on Applications
  3. Find the Utilities folder and double-click to open
  4. Double-click the Terminal Icon
  5. Type the following: launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.notificationcenterui.plist
  6. Press Enter

Disable Display Mirroring
  1. Click the Apple Icon in the Upper Left of your screen
  2. Select System Preferences
  3. Click Displays
  4. Select Arrangement
  5. Un-tick Mirroring

Disable Time Machine
  1. Click the Apple Icon in the Upper Left of your screen
  2. Select System Preferences
  3. Click Time Machine
  4. Un-tick "Show Time Machine in menu bar"
  5. Ensure that Time Machine is set to Off

 

Run iTunes setup

  1. Open iTunes and click through all the initial setup options
  2. Click on iTunes in the menubar and then select Preferences
  3. Click Advanced
  4. Un-tick  "Check for new software updates automatically"
  5. Click OK
  6. Close iTunes

Disable Reopen windows when logging back in  

  1. Click the Apple Icon in the Upper Left of your screen
  2. Select Restart
  3. Un-Tick "Reopen windows when logging back in"
  4. Click Restart

Set Date & Time to update automatically 
  1. Click the Time and Date on your menubar
  2. Click on Time Zone
  3. Ensure the correct location has been set
  4. Click Date & Time
  5. Ensure set date and time automatically is checked
  6. Click Clock
  7. Check "Display time with seconds"

Disable Wifi 
  1. Click the Wifi Icon on your menubar
  2. Click "Turn Wifi Off"

Install ~Sedna Software
  1. Download and Install the Sedna Presenter Player Software 
  2. Install and Configure Presenter Shutdown Manager
